Do you know the difference between ohagi and botamochi?

Though I am a Japanese, I had no idea about it.

It's related to the life styles of old Japanese people which are depend on the seasons.

We usually eat ohagi in fall because the flowers of hagi bloom in fall.

Also we usually eat botamochi in spring because the flowers of botann bloom in spring.

That's why we call them ohagi and botamochi.

Then there are other interesting facts.

Red beans are harvested in fall and we can make delicious smashed sweet red beans. So ohagi made with them.

But red beans which passed the winter can't make them. So botamochi made with strained sweet red beans.

It's really interesting Japanese tradition. But unfortunately, most of Japanese people forget about these things.

I learned these through cooking week activity at Japanese class.

We have to think about it again and I want to tell these facts to the people in here!
